8 Great Car Movies Every Enthusiast Should Watch During This Lockdown

We know it can get pretty frustrating to not get behind the wheel and burn rubber for the next few weeks. While mechanics from Murray are sent home and those going for diesel service in Salt Lake City have to postpone, why don’t you just take this time to kick back and enjoy a few car flicks.

We have a few recommendations that we believe you will enjoy. So grab a bucket of popcorn and get that ice-cold beer. It’s gonna be a fun ride.

8 Great Car Movies to Watch While On Lockdown

1. Grand Prix (1966)

Starring: James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, Yves Montand

The movie follows the story of four Formula One drivers from 1966. With racing scenes that are realistic and exciting — due to some actual footage from the racing season used for the film — this movie remains to be one of the best, if not the best, racing movies ever made.

2. Bullitt (1968)

Starring: Steve McQueen

A dedicated policeman takes on a case when the witness he was assigned to protect is killed by mobsters. While not entirely a car movie, McQueen’s Mustang plays a very important role in it.

3. Duel (1971)

Starring: Dennis Weaver

Steven Spielberg’s directorial debut is about a traveling businessman who ends up being chased by an old tanker truck in road rage. This is one of the best performances we’ve seen from a Plymouth Valiant.

4. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981)

Starring: Mel Gibson

No car movie list would be complete without a Mad Max movie. While we have nothing but love for the first installment of the film, we chose to go with The Road Warrior which is a great example that sequels aren’t always inferior to the original.

5. Ronin (1998)

Starring: Robert De Niro, Jean Reno

This 1998 action-thriller from director John Frankenheimer features one of the finest car chase scenes in Hollywood history. It showcases an epic and realistic eight-minute chase between a BMW and a Peugeot through the streets of Paris.

6. Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)

Starring: Nicholas Cage, Angelina Jolie

Why should you watch this Nick Cage movie? Two things: cars and Angelina Jolie. This is a movie about an ex-con who goes back to his former ways to protect his brother.

7. Death Proof (2007)

Starring: Kurt Russell, Rosario Dawson

Quentin Tarantino is a genius, no doubt. Everything that he touches instantly turns into a cult film masterpiece. So when he decided to give homage to cult classic movies, we knew we were in for a real treat.

8. Rush (2013)

Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl

The biographical film portrays the rivalry between Formula 1 drivers James Hunt, portrayed by Hemsworth, and Niki Lauda, played by Bruhl. The movie follows their story throughout the 1976 motor-racing season.

This list is just the tip of the iceberg. There’s a whole lot more where it came from. In the meantime, enjoy the downtime until you hit the road again. Enjoy the show!
